Based in Houston, Texas, Main Street Capital has helped over 200 private companies grow or transition by providing flexible private equity and debt capital solutions; the company has more than $6.5 billion of capital under management. In 2017, Main Street Capital established a scholarship program to assist the children of its employees, as well as the children of its portfolio companies’ employees and its student volunteers from Cristo Rey Jesuit school.
Administered by Scholarship America, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition reimbursement, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals, the Main Street Capital Corporation Scholarship provides support for students who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.
The scholarship program was inspired by the experience of Main Street Capital CEO Dwayne Hyzak, a passionate advocate for supporting students. When he was 18, Dwayne wasn’t sure what to do with his life after graduating from high school. But, at a time when the college admissions process was less complex and tuition prices more reasonable, he took a chance at Texas State University. The day before the start of the fall semester, he decided to walk into the admissions office—where he completed an application, was accepted that same day, paid his tuition fees and started college 24 hours later.
After a long and successful career, Dwayne understands how very fortunate he was to be given the opportunity to attend college and understands just how difficult it is for today’s students—today, the admissions process is long and selective while tuition costs continue to rise. Dwayne wants every aspiring student to have the opportunity to go to college, and that is why Main Street Capital is proud to offer its scholarship program to students and families connected to the company.
