Wait, What!? Man Arrested While Allegedly Trying To Hide Stolen $770K Earrings By Doing THIS

Roommates, this crime story is giving “HE DID WHAT” energy from beginning to end, chile! Meet Houston’s very own Jaythan Gilder. Over a week ago, Gilder was busted for allegedly running off with $770,000 worth of Tiffany & Co. jewelry. The problem, though, is that Florida police have been unable to retrieve the diamond earrings because of HOW Jaythan opted to hide them. According to The Washington Post, the 32-year-old swallowed the jewels amid his detainment in another state!

More Details About Alleged Stolen Jewelry Scheme

Employees at Tiffany & C. in Orlando, Florida, reportedly told local police that a male customer had introduced himself as a representative of an NBA player. The shopper was led to a private buying room. In there, he snatched two pairs of earrings valued at $609,500 and $160,000. One pair weighed 8.19 karats, while the other weighed 4.86. The suspect also grabbed a diamond ring priced at $587,000.

Surveillance footage confirmed the suspect to be Jaythan Gilder. The video shows him struggling to open a sliding glass door, which led to him losing the ring after an employee slapped it out of his hand. Eventually, Gilder got the door open and slipped out to the parking lot with the diamond earrings. However, surveillance footage worked against him again! Police identified his car and license plate number, which showed the car to be a Texas rental. From there, local cops connected with the Florida Highway Patrol.

Did The Suspect Really Swallow The Diamond Earrings?

When state troopers finally pulled Jaythan Gilder over, he was reportedly 340 miles away in Washington County, which is west of Tallahassee. Cops pulled him over for a traffic violation but detained him for resisting investigation. That’s when he reportedly swallowed the diamond earrings. One of the troopers claimed that he heard Gilder say, “I should have thrown them out of the window.”

After his arrest, police took a scan of his torso at the Washington County Jail. The scan showed “foreign objects” stuck in the 32-year-old’s digestive tract. Meanwhile, he asked jail workers if he was “going to be charged” for what was inside his stomach.

Prosecutors have revealed some potential charges, which include grand theft and robbery with a mask. But first, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office has to wait until the suspect poops out the objects to confirm their suspicions. On Thursday, they declined to provide an update on the retrieval process to TWP.

Jaythan Gilder Has Allegedly Done This Before!

Stealing diamond earrings isn’t the first time Gilder has tried his hand at robbery–and failed. Back in 2022, he picked up a charge for theft from a Tiffany & Co. store in Texas. Additionally, Texas Montgomery County officials claim that a man matching Jaythan’s personal information was convicted last April of theft worth up to $150,000. That person was sentenced to five years in state prison but got parole released in November.
