Everything Don Omar Shared About His Cancer
The 46-year-old first revealed that he had cancer in an Instagram post on Monday (June 17). However, he did not indicate what type.
For context, the American National Cancer Institute has previously said there are over 200 types of the disease. This year, the NCI estimates doctors will diagnose “roughly 2.0 million people” with a variant of the disease.
“Today, yes, but tomorrow I won’t have cancer,” Don Omar said in his caption, as translated from Spanish. “Good intentions are well received. See you all soon. #f**kcancer”
The post featured a photo of Don Omar’s closed fist with a red-and-white hospital band around his wrist. A closer look at the band indicates his surgery might’ve been performed at Orlando Health, a private hospital.
Within two days, the post received over 53,000 comments and more than 970,000 likes.
Spanish Rapper Underwent Surgery, Reveals Results
As mentioned above, on Tuesday (June 18), Don Omar circled back to his Instagram profile with an update on his cancer.
He told his 11.9 million followers that his surgery was successful and he is now cancer-free.
“I woke up today cancer-free and grateful. Thank you for your good wishes, prayers and thousands of messages. My surgery was a success now to recover,” he said in his caption, as translated from Spanish.
Additionally, he shared a selfie chucking up the deuces with a tired expression on his face.
This health update comes just a few weeks before Don Omar hops back on the road for the second leg of his ‘Back to Reggaeton’ tour. He will kick off the performances in Oakland, California, in August.
Earlier this month, the Puerto Rican rapper shared historic news about his career. 21 years after releasing his debut album ‘The Last Don,’ it has surpassed a billion streams on Spotify.
Months before his cancer scare, Don Omar made peace with long-time reggaeton rival and fellow Puerto Rican Daddy Yankee.
“Thank you for collaborating and for competing because I did it with a titan. I keep the good memories, the laughs, the dreams together and the desire for a last round with such a great adversary. We will meet again soon because I owe you a hug and thank you in person. In the meantime, long live King Daddy,” he wrote in the translated caption.
